ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW ESSAY ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS
This assignment provides an overview of a ministry organization. It is intended to help the student begin to assess the current state of the ministry related to key organizational health issues. Throughout the course, students will use the information gathered from this assignment for a foundation for continued engagement with their ministry organization, ultimately leading to the development of action plans to increase the health of the ministry.
NOTE: You must have personal knowledge of the organization and access to the required information to complete the assignment.
1. For this assignment, you will write a 3–4-page essay to provide an overview of your ministry organization.
2. This organization can be a church, parachurch organization, mission organization, or not-for-profit organization.
3. If you are not on staff at a ministry organization, select an organization that you are familiar with to use for the essay.
4. Your essay must be written in current Turabian format.
Use the following structure for your essay (be sure to include the section headings in the essay):
1. Core Values (½ page)
State the Core Values of the organization. If the organization does not have stated core values, the student must review/assess the organization and provide suggested core values based on the student’s observation. Once the core values have been stated (or identified), the student must provide commentary on the alignment of the core values with the practices of the organization.
2. Vision (½ page)
State the Vision of the organization. If the organization does not have a stated vision, the student must review/assess the organization and provide suggested vision based on the student’s observation. Once the vision has been stated (or identified), the student must provide commentary on the alignment of the vision with the practices of the organization.
3. Mission/Purpose (½ page)
State the Mission of the organization. If the organization does not have a stated mission, the student must review/assess the organization and provide suggested mission based on the student’s observation. Once the mission has been stated (or identified), the student must provide commentary on the alignment of the mission with the practices of the organization.
4. Leadership Structure (1½–2 pages)
Provide an overview of the leadership structure of the organization. This overview can be in the form of an organization chart or a written commentary. Once the leadership structure of the organization has been provided, the student must provide a brief critique of the leadership structure, noting both strengths and weaknesses of the leadership structure.
