“Before the Revolution, women were housewives with no involvement in politics. Women had no right to vote or hold public office, yet when talks of war began, it sparked a revolution within the women. Women became a key role in the success of the Revolutionary War. Women were the main consumers of the house, so men wrote newspaper articles targeting women, asking them to be patriotic and boycott English goods, such as tea and textiles. Women began spinning their own fabrics and experimenting with different things to find a replacement for tea. They were given the name “Daughters of Liberty”, and Sarah Bradlee Fulton was one of them. Sarah Bradlee Fulton is called the Mother of the Boston Tea Party as she helped a group of Boston citizens disguise themselves at Mohawk Indians beforehand. The Daughters of Liberty also played a role in helping manufacture goods when non-importation agreements caused shortages. Women would follow their husbands into war by being nurses or cooks. Women were dedicated to the cause so much that if their husbands died or were injured in battle, they would take their place and begin fighting.

Another important Daughter of Liberty was Abigail Adams, wife of John Adams. While John Adams was contributing to the Declaration of Independence, Abigail wrote him saying “remember the ladies. This message was obviously ignored as the Declaration of Independence does not mention anyone but men. I believe the men did not “remember the ladies” because they thought once the war was over, women would reassume their roles as housewives and would be content with that. The men did not want the women to have any say or power, and this is why the roles of women did not change after the war. The government we have today does not remember women either. There are so many injustices against women. For example the Texas abortion ban. Texas recently banned all abortions past six weeks of conception. Mind you, the majority of the people who voted on this bill were men pushing their religious beliefs on everyone. These men want control over a woman’s body and her say, not what is best. Another example would be copious amounts of violence against women that occurs everyday. Nearly 4.8 million women experience partner related physical assaults and rapes every year (Now.org). The government needs to be held accountable by responding quicker and taking domestic violence cases more seriously”For more information on  Daughter of Liberty check on this :https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daughters_of_Liberty
