The Importance of Being Earnest 

You will be required to write a short literary analysis essay in which you are going to offer your close reading or interpretation of one of the literary texts on the syllabus, focused on one of its constituent elements, such as setting, plot, style, point of view, characterization, symbolism, theme, or context (social, cultural, historical).

Basic requirements:

must be about 1,000 words in length (approx. 2.5 pages, double spaced)
must be argumentative in nature
must use a sufficient number of textual examples–quotations followed by explanation and interpretation–as argumentative support
compliant with MLA standards and guidelines
must contain a “Works Cited” page
